\nTG4\u2019s reputation for quality programming has been further enhanced by the publication today of the nominations for this year\u2019s IFTA Awards. The Irish language channel has 13 nominations on the shortlist.<\/span>

\nArracht<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0has received 11 nominations and\u00a0Finky<\/strong>\u00a0has received 2 nominations for the IFTA Awards 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both\u00a0Arracht<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Finky<\/strong>\u00a0are films from\u00a0Cine4<\/strong>, an initiative, from a TG4, Screen Ireland and BAI partnership, to develop original feature films in the Irish language.Trailers for both films are available to view here\u00a0www.Cine4.ie<\/a>

\nArracht<\/strong><\/b>\u00a0is a feature film by\u00a0Tom Sullivan<\/strong>, produced by C\u00fa\u00e1n Mac Conghail for\u00a0Macalla.\u00a0<\/strong>Starring\u00a0D\u00f3nall \u00d3 H\u00e9ala\u00ed,\u00a0Michael McElhatton, Siobh\u00e1n O\u2019Kelly<\/strong>\u00a0and introducing a stunning debut from 11-year-old\u00a0Saise N\u00ed Chuinn<\/strong>,\u00a0Arracht\u00a0<\/strong>is a haunting tale of overcoming grief and the fight for survival.\u00a0 Set in Ireland, 1845, the film centres on fisherman Colm\u00e1n Sharkey, who takes in a stranger, Patsy, a former soldier, who arrives just ahead of the blight \u2013 a crop disease that caused the Great Plague, killing and displacing millions of Irish people.\u00a0Arracht<\/strong>\u00a0was filmed entirely on the west coast of Ireland in Connemara.\u00a0Other cast members include\u00a0Dara Devaney<\/strong>,\u00a0Peter Coonan<\/strong>,\u00a0Se\u00e1n T. \u00d3 Meallaigh<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Michelle Beamish<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Arracht<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0had its world premiere at the 23rd P\u00d6FF Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, in Estonia in November, its Irish premiere at the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival in February and its UK premiere at Glasgow Film Festival, and at Stockfish Festival in Iceland. It was the closing film at this year’s recent Galway Film Fleadh. The film has played to critical acclaim to date.<\/span>
\n 
\nFinky<\/strong><\/span><\/b>\u00a0is produced by Ab\u00fa Media Film Productions.\u00a0<\/strong>It is directed by Datha\u00ed Keane (An Klondike), written by Datha\u00ed Keane and Diarmuid de Faoite, and produced by Eileen Seoighe and Pierce Boyce.\u00a0Finky<\/strong>\u00a0is a feature-length psychological drama that tells the story of Mic\u00ed Phinc\u00ed \u00d3 Foghl\u00fa, a young musician with a tragic past who is crippled in a car accident and given a chance at redemption when he is recruited by a violent, avant-garde circus.\u00a0IFTA Award winning actor Dara Devaney is in the title role. DOP is Cathal Watters.\u00a0At Galway Film Fleadh 2019\u00a0Finky<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded\u00a0Best Cinematography Award<\/strong>.<\/span>

\nFull details of the TG4 nominees for IFTA 2020 are given below. The IFTA Awards are the most prestigious awards in Irish film and drama.<\/span>

\nDirector General of TG4, Alan Esslemont, congratulated the shortlisted TG4 productions for this year\u2019s IFTA saying,\u00a0\u201cI would like to congratulate everyone connected with the\u00a0<\/em>Cine4<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0feature films, \u2018Arracht\u2019 and \u2018Finky\u2019.\u00a0 As one of Ireland\u2019s public service broadcasters, TG4 plays a key role in the fostering of Ireland\u2019s creative economy. \u00a0We always believed that films created through the\u00a0<\/em>Cine4<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0scheme would delight audiences and we also believe that\u00a0<\/em>Cine4<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0will open doors internationally for Irish film-makers.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
