{"id":13126,"date":"2016-02-01T15:13:27","date_gmt":"2016-02-01T15:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.tg4.ie\/en\/corporate\/press\/press-releases\/2016-2\/010216-2\/"},"modified":"2019-06-24T16:12:55","modified_gmt":"2019-06-24T15:12:55","slug":"010216-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/dev.tg4.ie\/en\/information\/press\/press-releases\/2016-2\/010216-2\/","title":{"rendered":"01.02.16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a highly competitive selection process the following filmmakers have now been commissioned: Tadhg O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s <strong><em>Solas C\u00e9ad Bliain<\/em><\/strong> will explore how different Irish artworks have used light as a motif;\u00a0 Oonagh Kerney\u2019s <strong><em>O\u00edche Nollag na mBan<\/em><\/strong> is inspired by Se\u00e1n \u00d3 R\u00edord\u00e1in\u2019s well known poem and aims to capture the powerful energy of the work in a highly visual treatment; Fergal Ward\u2019s and Adrian Duncan\u2019s <strong><em>Bungalow Bliss<\/em><\/strong> will offer a radical reappraisal of the humble bungalow and its importance in Ireland\u2019s architectural heritage; D\u00f3nal \u00d3 C\u00e9illeachair\u2019s <strong><em>Ailiu Iath n-hErend<\/em><\/strong> (Invoking Ireland) draws its inspiration from the ancient collection of poems, The Songs of Amergin, which, according to legend, contain the first words of Irish ever heard on the island of Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>Megs Morley\u2019s and Tom Flanagan\u2019s <strong><em>Allag\u00f3ir\u00ed Chumhachta<\/em><\/strong> (Allegories of Power) will explore the significance of stone statues found throughout Ireland and their relationship to our political history and our collective memory; Pat Collins will bring us into the beautiful, immersive paintings of Co Tyrone\u2019s William McKeown in <strong><em>Idir Neamh agus Talamh: Saothar William McKeown<\/em><\/strong><em>;<\/em> Sharon Whooley\u2019s <strong><em>Imogen Stuart Dealbh\u00f3ir<\/em><\/strong> will explore the powerful work of German-Irish sculptor Imogen Stuart; and filmmaker Art O\u2019Briain will invite us into <strong><em>The Souvenir Shop<\/em><\/strong>, a playful exhibition by artist Rita Duffy which gathers together a collection of unique objects with a sense of irony, history and mischief.<\/p>\n<p>These eight films will be of three to five minutes in duration, will have a budget of \u20ac12,500 each and will all screen on TG4 as single films and as a combined one hour film from Easter weekend 2016 onwards. The scheme is administered by Galway Film Centre on behalf of TG4 and the Arts Council\/An Chomhairle Eala\u00edon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proinsias N\u00ed Ghr\u00e1inne<\/strong>, Commissioning Editor, TG4 said \u201cAs part of TG4\u2019s response to marking one hundred years of the birth and development of our state, we are delighted to present these very varied films to celebrate Ireland\u2019s extraordinary and multi-layered connection with the arts, and their relevance to our daily lives, and to offer a <em>s\u00fail eile<\/em> perspective on aspects of that landscape\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fionnuala Sweeney<\/strong>, Head of Film, the Arts Council\/An Chomhairle Eala\u00edon said: \u201cThe Arts Council is delighted to support the making of these films.
