\nThe visit to Ros na R\u00fan was to acknowledge TG4\u2019s 25th<\/sup> anniversary which takes place on Halloween night. President Higgins founded TnaG when he was Minister for Arts. The station went on air for the first time on October 31st 1996. Over the past 25 years, TG4\u2019s vision has been to promote the Irish language and culture in people\u2019s lives in Ireland and worldwide. TG4\u2019s motto \u2018S\u00fail Eile\u2019<\/em> is to show the world from a different perspective and to shine a light on communities that aren\u2019t in the mainstream. The Presidents were given a taste of the cultural, linguistic, and economic importance of TG4, especially Gaeltacht regions.
\n <\/p>\n

Also present were \u00dadar\u00e1s na Gaeltachta who had a leading role in training and development in the sector in 1996 and continue to work closely with TG4 to support development, sustainability of employment in the creative sector in Gaeltacht regions.
\n 
\nThe Presidents were joined by current Council of State member, Se\u00e1n \u00d3 Cuirre\u00e1in, former Council of State member Professor Gear\u00f3id \u00d3 Tuathaigh, and M\u00edche\u00e1l \u00d3 Conghaile, founder of Irish language publisher Cl\u00f3 Iar-Chonnacht<\/em>.
\n <\/p>\n

They were treated to a live action scene from Ros na R\u00fan actors on set and a musical performance by internationally renowned traditional Irish musician and composer Johnny \u00d3g Connolly and sean-n\u00f3s singer P\u00f3l \u00d3 Ceannabh\u00e1in. Johnny \u00d3g, from An Spid\u00e9al has collaborated with many musicians and has composed music to the poetry of M\u00e1irt\u00edn \u00d3 Dire\u00e1in and most recently for poems by Joe Steve \u00d3 Neachtain. P\u00f3l \u00d3 Ceannabh\u00e1in from Carna, in the Connemara Gaeltacht won the coveted sean-n\u00f3s singing competition, Corn U\u00ed Riada at Oireachtas na Gaeilge in 2012, was awarded TG4 Gradam Ceoil Singer of the year in 2016 and was ambassador for Culture Night Ireland 2020.
\n <\/p>\n

Si\u00fan N\u00ed Raghallaigh, Cathaoirleach of the TG4 Board<\/strong> spoke about TG4\u2019s anniversary and future of the station, \u201cSince it launched in 1996, TG4 has been a champion of Irish culture, creativity and talent and has grown its audience both at home and worldwide through the TG4 player. 2021 is an important milestone for TG4 as we celebrate our 25th year on air and look forward to continuing to invest in a vibrant, creative independent sector which ensures TG4 and the Irish language remain relevant and important part of Ireland\u2019s Public Service Media.\u201d<\/em>

Referring to the presidential visit Miche\u00e1l \u00d3 h\u00c9anaigh, Chief Executive, \u00dadar\u00e1s na Gaeltachta<\/strong> commented: \u201cThe audio-visual sector is vitally important to the Irish language and the Gaeltacht itself and it is a source of pride for \u00dadar\u00e1s na Gaeltachta to have had a central role in the growth of the sector over the last forty years and especially in advance of the establishment twenty-five years ago of Teilif\u00eds na Gaeilge or TG4 as it is now.
\nWe are delighted to have had the opportunity today to highlight those intertwined aspects of Gaeltacht tradition and innovation to both Presidents.\u201d<\/em>
