This is the third year in a row that IFTA has selected a film from the CINE4 scheme from TG4, Screen Ireland and the BAI as Ireland\u2019s nomination.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAn Cail\u00edn Ci\u00fain is the first feature film from the writer and director, Colm Bair\u00e9ad and producer, Cleona N\u00ed Crualaoi of Insc\u00e9al based on the book &#8216;Foster&#8217; by Claire Keegan.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe film had its premiere at the Berlinale International Film Festival in February and was awarded the Grand Prix Award for Best Film from the Generation Kplus International Jury.  The film opened Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival earlier this year, the first time ever an Irish language film opened the festival and was awarded Best Irish Film and Audience Award at the festival. It was awarded a total of eight IFTAs in March including &#8216;Best Film&#8217;, &#8216;Best Director&#8217; and &#8216;Best Actress&#8217;.  The film is in cinemas in Ireland and Britain since it was released in May by Breakout Pictures and Curzon grossing over \u20ac800,000 at the box office to date. It is currently in cinemas in New Zealand and will be released in Australia in September.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAn Cail\u00edn Ci\u00fain has had recent screenings at international film festivals such as Sydney Film Festival, and Taipei Film Festival where it was awarded the Audience Choice Award and has been selected for the International Hong Kong Film Festival. Bankside Films have recently acquired the film for world sales.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nCritics and the audience are unanimous about the film consistently giving it five stars.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAn Cail\u00edn Ci\u00fain tells the story of Kate (Catherine Clinch) &#8211; a nine-year-old girl from an overcrowded, dysfunctional family who is sent away to live with foster parents for the summer. Despite a warm welcome from the woman, Eibhl\u00edn (Carrie Crowley), the man of the house, Se\u00e1n (Andrew Bennett), stayed away from C\u00e1it, and she from him, but over time a friendship began to strengthen between them. Slowly, under the care of the Kinsellas, C\u00e1it blossoms and finds a new way of life. But in this house where there should be no secrets, she discovers one painful truth.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>Mary Ellen N\u00ed Chual\u00e1in, Commissioning Manager TG4<\/strong> said, <em>&#8220;Congratulations to Insc\u00e9al, Colm and Cleona, the cast and crew involved in making An Cail\u00edn Ci\u00fan on being selected as Ireland&#8217;s entry for the Oscars by IFTA. I would also like to congratulate M\u00e1ire N\u00ed Chonl\u00e1in, Commissioning Editor TG4, and our colleagues in F\u00eds \u00c9ireann and the BAI.  An Cail\u00edn Ci\u00fain has had an impact on everyone who has seen it to date, both here at home and with audiences around the world in Britain, Europe, New Zealand, Taiwan and Australia. The Cine4 scheme is succeeding in developing Irish language cinema and all of us in TG4 are extremely proud of that.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>M\u00e1ire N\u00ed Chonl\u00e1in, Executive Producer TG4<\/strong> said, <em>\u201cIt is because of the vision and talent of Colm and Cleona that An Cail\u00edn Ci\u00fan was chosen as Ireland&#8217;s entry for the Oscars. They have created a classic film with the best actors and crew involved.
