TG4 Gradam Ceoil was established in 1998 to recognise, honour and thank all those who have played a prominent part in supporting, nurturing and strengthening Irish traditional music. Our living tradition is renowned across the world as a core element of Ireland\u2019s identity and image as a creative and cultural nation. TG4 Gradam Ceoil shines a light on the beautiful richness, depth and dynamism of our traditional music, and gives a public platform to those performers of all ages, from Ireland and across the world, who are making their mark on this ancient artform which thrives as a contemporary music.<\/p>\n
The Gradam Ceoil is awarded annually at a major concert which features the recipients playing with friends and family. This is a live brioadcast, which adds considerably to the buzz and the atmosphere of the event, and Gradam Ceoil has pride of place as one of TG4\u2019s broadcast highlights of the year.<\/p>\n
A voluntary selection panel, appointed by TG4, selects the recipients of Gradam Ceoil and members are appointed to the panel based on their expertise in traditional music as a living tradition.
