As part of its 20th Birthday celebrations this week, TG4 has issued a new App offering a wide range of Irish language content  for young people in the pre-school and primary school age groups.  This significant development was launched at the channel’s Cúla4 birthday party for hundreds of its younger viewers at the annual Oireachtas na Gaeilge language and culture festival in Killarney.

The new App is available on iOS from the App Store (search for cula4).    It enables younger viewers to access Cúla4 at any time of the day that suits them (or their parents).  Up to 200 hours of top-quality Irish language content can be viewed, featuring series such as Dennis & Gnasher, Peg & Cat, and Masha agus an Béar. In addition to these versioned series, the new App also offers original Irish language content including science and nature programmes like Is Eolaí Mé and Na Dúlradóirí.  Additional shorter segments can also  be found under other headings for  games, sport and crafts (Cluichí, Spórt, Ceardaíocht.)

The App offers two zones, one for children aged under 6 and the other for those above that age.   It is available worldwide.  Users in Ireland have access to the full range of content. Overseas users will  have some  content restrictions when global content rights have not been made available to TG4.  Users with Android devices can access the same content on  Cúla4’s Website https://www.cula4.com/ga/

Lís Ní Dhálaigh, Output Director at TG4, says the new app is a significant development for the service:  “It extends access of our Irish language content for young audiences both in Ireland and worldwide.”  she said.  “It ensures that our content is available cross-platform and serves the non linear viewing preferences of  younger audience members.  It is apt that the new App was launched at the Cúla4   birthday party at Oireachtas na Gaeilge, as  we mark 20 years of growth in TG4’s provision  of a daily extensive service of quality and attractive Irish language content for young people.”
